Toronto Power Corporation Generator Hall

This is a photograph of the former generator hall in the Toronto Power Corporation building on the Niagara River, just upstream from the actual falls on the Canadian side. This building was abandoned then repurposed by removing the generators from this floor. The Niagara Parks Commission continues to wrestle with what to do with this and several other obsolete power generation facilities. Time will tell if they can find use for the building.

One of many wooden grain elevators that have been disposed of by the major grain handling companies like the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool or Alberta Grain Growers plus many others who have moved to larger elevators. Modern elevators are now concrete or steel due to the reduction of fire risks.
Rattlesnake area

don’t go walking and fail to watch where you step out on the prairies. Rattlesnakes are real and they bite. Canadians used to US entertainment think these snakes are only in the US West. They are very much present in the Canadian Prairie.

I’ve seen a lot of signs in area’s you would not expect warning people in the Prairies to exercise caution when walking. One campground I visited a couple related the story of a woman who was ‘citified’ camping beside their trailer in a tent. They said she awoke early in the morning and saw a rattlesnake shedding it’s skin and packed up. Strangely I had run into this woman at a restaurant and she had related the same story. It’s a long way to a doctor out there so watch your step and your animals too.

Approaching Storm; Near Hanna AB

Looking toward Hanna AB as all hell is about to break

Looking to the west towards Hanna AB a farming and grain production area in the Canadian Prairies

Back roading it through Saskatchewan and Alberta during July and August of this year. I saw far more rain cloud activity than one would expect in a dry prairie where ‘dry farming’ is practiced. This rain cloud formation turned ‘yellow’ and I’ve seen this before. Look out, pull over and hope there’s no golfball sized hail. Fortunately the storm was only a half hour downpour and there was no hail

Ground Floor, abandoned and derelict Historically designated building

Like many buildings we document this one was falling apart due to neglect or "demolition by neglect". It's a successful strategy and it's worked well. A recent example is Chestnut Hall in Toronto.

This building just might be saved despite the neglect of several in a line of disinterested owners. Time will tell. Last visit the property was hoarded and there was some removal of materials from the site. Who knows it might be restored. I've learned not to expect too much though. It's a pretty infrequent event.
